Being able to step outside of your comfort zone is essential if you want to create a successful career. Everyone has a different place where they feel most at home. Some like to be surrounded by people or giving a speech on stage so that they’re in control of a room. For an introvert, your comfort zone is likely to be actually at home, maybe in your pajamas and getting on with some work without anyone around to disturb you. But pushing yourself further can help you to become more confident and more resilient. You could do more in your career or with your business if you step outside of your comfort zone more.

Join a Social/Networking Group

Contrary to popular belief, many introverts love to be social – just not all the time. If you’re looking for ways to get outside of your comfort zone, joining a social or networking group can be a great way to do it. It can help you to become more confident, and you benefit from the encouragement of the people around you. You could start doing something that helps you directly in your career, like a speech or debate club. Or you could do something that builds your confidence and helps you make connections.

Try Something Adrenaline-inducing

Doing something that scares you induces adrenaline, but you probably would prefer if you were at least having fun at the same time. If you’re looking to get your adrenaline pumping, think about doing something active that will give you a thrill. It’s a great way to try something new and give yourself the confidence to try even more new things. Book yourself in for some kitesurfing lessons, try skydiving or book a day on a racetrack. Not only will you enjoy a thrilling experience, but you’ll come out of it believing that you can do anything.

Set Yourself a Challenge

Challenging yourself a little bit every day is great for getting out of your comfort zone. Giving yourself a big challenge to work toward can be even better. Maybe you want to run a marathon or write a novel. You could also set yourself a challenge relating to your career. Perhaps you want to put yourself in the running for an award or go for a promotion. Having something big to aim for helps you to have more of a purpose and something to make you keep pushing yourself.

Address a Specific Fear

What are you most scared of? Maybe being scared of spiders isn’t going to hold you back from fulfilling your dreams, but you could have other fears that might be stopping you from reaching your career goals. Perhaps you’re afraid of public speaking, or your fear of flying is stopping you from traveling for work. Confronting one of your fears can help you to go further in your career. It can also give you the confidence you need to do more in your career.

Boost your career by stepping outside of your comfort zone. You could surprise yourself with the things you’re capable of doing.
