When you decide to pursue things in life, you\u2019ve gotta have a game plan\u2014in this case, #GOALS\ud83d\udc4a. What\u2019s the point of doing something when you don\u2019t know which direction you are going in? What do you plan to accomplish? How do you plan to accomplish this? When do you plan to do this?\u00a0 These questions apply no matter if you want to apply to the top colleges in the USA<\/a>, or beat that personal record on the bench press!<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re selling hot dogs\ud83c\udf2d at your cart, you don\u2019t just get up one day and decide to do it. Your best bet at success is to have some projections\ud83d\udcc8 that can push you towards what you want to achieve.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI plan to sell 20 trillion hot dogs by next week so that I can raise enough capital to turn my hot dog cart into a gourmet hot dog restaurant\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/h2>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

When you\u2019re setting your goals, it\u2019s important to be SMART\u2014Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Reasonable and Timely. Using SMART goals can set you up for success in your goal setting.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The \u2018S\u2019 in SMART means \u2018Specific\u2019\ud83d\udd0e and this alludes to having as much clarity as possible, i.e your goal has to be spelled out precisely. In the initial stages of discussing this goal, use words and phrases that leave no doubt as to what the goal is \ud83d\udc4d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

There should be no room for misunderstandings\ud83d\ude15 of what the goal is, as it should be well-defined and concise. Also, remember your <\/span>Why<\/span><\/i> and your <\/span>How<\/span><\/i>. Why are you doing this? How will you get there?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t understand what you really want from the get-go, you\u2019ll have difficulties achieving what you want. This is the initial stage in establishing the SMART goals process–paving the way forward–so you want to take the time and do this part right.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The \u2018M\u2019 stands for \u2018Measurable\u2019\ud83d\udccf. What does this mean? You have to be able to track your goal, and determine whether or not it\u2019s attainable. If it\u2019s attainable, ask yourself \u201cHow far away is this goal?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You won\u2019t be able to tell <\/span>when<\/span><\/i> you\u2019ve succeeded if you can\u2019t quantify this goal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a prime example of a measurable goal: \u201cI want to add 100 dollars per week of income to our bank by writing five 500-word articles every day.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, the \u2018A\u2019 can stand for a variety of things that usually stem along the lines of Achievable\ud83d\udcca, Assignable\ud83d\udcdd or Actionable\ud83c\udfc3\u200d\u2640\ufe0f.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The bottom line is this: Is it DOABLE? (Wait, that starts with a D, and that would change the acronym to SMDRT goals; wouldn\u2019t it?\ud83e\udd23)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The problem with a myriad of startups is that their goals are often unrealistic, to say the least. You can have big dreams but with baby steps. Think about it. Those million-dollar companies were not built within a day or two.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

They had realistic goals that were manageable at their level until they achieved the growth they needed to move further; hence, your goals should be Achievable or you will only get frustrated.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

In addition, preference to really get something good done is to make your goal actionable\u2014something you can do each day that will eventually result in an accomplished goal. Be accurate about the time it takes to reach a goal, and what actions it takes to get there. \u270a<\/span><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s move on to \u2018R\u2019, which can stand for \u2018Realistic\u2019\ud83e\udd14 or \u2018Relevant\u2019\ud83d\ude0a. Think big, but stay grounded in reality. Don\u2019t engross yourself in unrealistic expectations based on hype or wants that are not a necessity. Your goal should also be \u2018Relevant\u2019 to your life\u2019s vision. \u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

Last but not least, we have arrived to the \u2018T\u2019. Authors refer to the \u201cT\u201d in the S.M.A.R.T. acronym as time-bound\u23f2\ufe0f, timely\u23f2\ufe0f or trackable \u23f2\ufe0f. Time is your most important asset, especially when it comes to setting a goal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Many of us are prone to procrastinate and setting a deadline often helps us to achieve our goals. Whether you\u2019re planning on increasing your sales by 30% or planning on losing 55 pounds, set a solid time-frame in which you plan to achieve these.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

All of the T\u2019s are important parts of the goal creating and setting process so set a time limit and you track\u23f1\ufe0fwhat is happening.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now Let\u2019s Talk About Prioritizing your #GOALS\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/h1>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Seek clarity on what will make you truly happy in life in order to prioritize your goals. There are typically four areas in which most people make their goals:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

  1. Family \u2013 Spending more time with your kids or partner \ud83d\udc68\u200d\ud83d\udc69\u200d\ud83d\udc67\u200d\ud83d\udc66<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Financial \u2013 Saving toward your six-month emergency cash or starting a business \ud83d\udcb0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Physical \u2013 Being healthy and more active \ud83d\udcaa<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Personal \u2013 Getting more education, or devoting more time to spiritual pursuits \u270c\ufe0f<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \u00a0<\/p>\n

    There are numerous concerns within each of these areas, but most goals can be summed up into one of these four areas.<\/span><\/p>\n

    As to which goals are most important at any given time, you\u2019ll need to ask yourself some questions to determine where to place your focus.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Which goals nag at you most often? <\/span><\/i>\ud83d\ude23<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u00a0<\/p>\n

    Sometimes there are things you want to have in your life and that may bother you consistently. You may find yourself worrying about those things at different points in the day or losing sleep over them at night.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u00a0<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Are your finances suffering because you cannot earn enough money at your current job?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Do you want to figure out how to get off the roller coaster of debt? (See what we did there?)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      \u00a0<\/p>\n

      This is a goal that fits in with all four of the areas above because financial stress can cause a lot of problems with your health, personal development and even within your family. Studies have shown that most couples argue over money and in worst cases, this can also lead to a divorce.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      \u00a0<\/p>\n

      If you really want to put yourself on the right track, understand the goals you need to achieve the life you want.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n





      <\/p>\n

      Which goals can be accomplished most easily? <\/span><\/i>\ud83d\ude0e<\/span><\/p>\n

      A part of prioritizing your goals is identifying the ones that come easiest on your list\ud83d\udcdd. Some goals are very short-term but give maximum impact without too much work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      \u00a0<\/p>\n

      For instance, maybe you have a goal of walking 15 minutes per day; it\u2019s not much but it<\/span> is <\/span><\/i>progress nonetheless and it\u2019s certainly better than doing nothing while you wait until you\u2019re able to achieve a larger goal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      \u00a0<\/p>\n

      Which goals would give you the most pride in yourself? <\/span><\/i>\ud83e\udd38<\/span><\/p>\n

      You probably want to achieve one million things at once, but have you ever asked yourself: Which goals would instill most pride in yourself?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      \u00a0<\/p>\n

      Will you feel better if you lose 20 pounds or will you feel better if you spend 20 minutes extra with your son?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      \u00a0<\/p>\n

      Keep in mind that there is no wrong answer. But also acknowledge the following: Being healthy might ultimately give you more time in terms of years with your son and you\u2019ll at least be able to keep up with him if he\u2019s at an age where he\u2019s really energetic.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Which goals have the most permanent results? <\/span><\/i>\ud83d\udcc8<\/span><\/p>\n

      I\u2019m sure you\u2019ve heard of long-term goals and short-term goals, which ties in with \u201cWhich goals have the most permanent results?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      \u00a0<\/p>\n

      When choosing to invest that extra money on your degree, determine how permanent the results are and acknowledge that no one can take that degree from you. It will always be an accomplishment. So, what is it worth?<\/span><\/p>\n

      Which goals will still impact me in 5 years, or 10 years?<\/span><\/i> \u231b<\/span><\/p>\n

      You decided to start a business today and you made sure to work towards the goals in order to achieve growth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      How will your actions today impact tomorrow? After all, we\u2019re not looking for present solutions only, but solutions that can set us up for the rest of our lives.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n





      <\/p>\n

      Which goals align with your core values in life? <\/span><\/i>\ud83d\udcaa<\/span><\/p>\n

      You have to first identify what your ideal life looks like. Any goal that fits into all four areas of your life is worth pursuing if it also fits into your schedule at the time. By the way, don\u2019t spend your life searching for \u201cthe dream job\u201d, instead, find a job that <\/span>supports<\/span><\/i> your dreams.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      \u00a0<\/p>\n

      Which goals are completely up to you; that you control <\/span><\/i>\ud83d\udcaf<\/span>percent?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

      Make sure that the goals you plan to achieve are the goals that are solely dependent on you. You don\u2019t want to wait for anyone and when you accomplish what you want, you should be able to say \u201cI got here by myself\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      \u00a0<\/p>\n

      Remember that you cannot control what anyone else does, so if any goal relies on the participation of someone else, and you don\u2019t have their participation, you might want to switch gears and focus on something only you control.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      Which goals are just for you? <\/span><\/i>\ud83e\uddd8<\/span><\/p>\n

      We understand the goals where you want to start making $10,000 a month so that you can start taking care of your elderly parents while still living comfortably or where you want to change from having a 9-5 job to being a Freelancer just so you can spend more time with your newborn baby.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      Which goals are just for others? <\/span><\/i>\ud83d\udc68\u200d\ud83d\udc69\u200d\ud83d\udc67\u200d\ud83d\udc66<\/span><\/p>\n

      Before you spend time doing things you may not enjoy, make sure you aren\u2019t doing it for someone else\u2019s benefit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      There are \u201cshoulds\u201d that often get in the way of proper goal setting and these are goals that are usually only for other people.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      Your spouse says you \u201cshould\u201d lose weight, your mom says you \u201cshould\u201d go to college.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      \u00a0<\/p>\n

      NEWS FLASH!! None of these are a good reason to do something but if it is something you truly want to do, then do it by all means. Just make sure you\u2019re not going to waste your time on something you may regret later just to make someone else happy now.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      Which goals cause you the most fear and Why? <\/span><\/i>\ud83d\ude28<\/span><\/p>\n

      Sometimes the very things you fear the most are what\u2019s best for you to do. Life won\u2019t always be gumdrops and lollipops (Which aren\u2019t best for you by the way so lay off the candy!). If you\u2019re always inside your comfort zone, you\u2019ll never get to where you want to be.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      \u00a0<\/p>\n

      Analyze your goal and figure out why it frightens you. Sometimes it\u2019s the unknown, and like ripping a Band-Aid off, just doing it might be the best cure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      Which goals make you excited? <\/span><\/i>\ud83d\udc83<\/span><\/p>\n

      When something makes you feel excited, you\u2019ll only want it more. Some goals immediately send tingles down your body and into your mind, pushing you forward to doing it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      \u00a0<\/p>\n

      The feeling of excitement is a great source of motivation no matter if your goal is an easier or more difficult one to accomplish. If it\u2019s a difficult goal, remind yourself of how excited you are to make this happen!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      However, set your goals wisely, because if this goal involves beating your high score on your video game, then you might want to question your \u201cwhy\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
