This is a lot of time to spend doing something, so it’s important that you find a job role that suits you well and ticks all of your boxes. Sure, not everybody is going to love their job. But you need to make sure that you’re in a position that you find bearable and that you don’t dread heading to each day. Now, different jobs suit different people – that’s what allows the world to work. So you need to take some time to consider what kind of positions you’d be interested in and whether they will suit you, your needs, your preferences and your lifestyle. Here are some questions to ask yourself that will help you along the way with this decision making.
What Do You Enjoy Doing?
First, consider what you enjoy doing. Of course, not everyone will work a job that they are passionate about or invested in, but if you can find one that works in this way, you’re likely to have a much more positive work life experience. Consider your passions and then consider jobs that revolve around them. If you are artistic, there are roles such as graphic designer, stylist, curator and more. If you enjoy being around animals, there are positions such as dog walker, doggy day care, pet sitting, animal management and more. If you like reading, you could become an editor, a book reviewer or other similar positions.
Do You Have Any Particular Skill Sets?
Next, think about what you’re good at. You may enjoy doing something, but if you’re naturally pretty useless at it, you may want to keep it as a hobby or something that you work on in your spare time. Consider your natural skillsets, as this will give you an idea of a position you could thrive and progress in. If you’re caring and considerate, you may do well in roles that involve helping people, such as carer roles, social services roles or medical professional jobs. If you’re good with kids, you could become a teacher, a playgroup worker or a childminder. What Do You Want to Earn?
For many of us, a job is simply a means of securing a good income that will provide us with a good quality of life. Of course, everyone would love to earn millions if they could. But take a good think about how much money you need to earn to lead a good quality of life. If you have no responsibilities, this may be less. If you have children or other dependents, this figure may rise. Look into the average pay of different roles to find positions that pay sufficient amounts to support you.
