If you are a pediatric dentist, you probably deal with the fear of the dentist a lot. Many children are scared to go to the dentist for the first time and even after they have been to the dentist several times they may still feel fear.

One of the ways you can help to alleviate children’s fears is to have a kid-friendly dental office. If you are looking for ways to make your dental office more inviting so that children will feel more relaxed once they come into the space then the good news is that it is possible.

Here are some tips that will help you make your dental office kid-friendly.

The Waiting Room

The waiting room can make or break your entire pediatric office. This is an important part of a pediatric medical clinic design.

When children step inside the waiting room they should immediately feel at home. They should become distracted by all the beautiful things that surround them.

This means that you want to make sure that you have bright beautiful colors that have cartoon figures and toys readily available. You can also have children’s books available in the waiting area.

Making your waiting area look like a play area is a good way to put children at ease immediately.

Video Entertainment

One of the easiest ways to distract children in the waiting area is to have his friendly videos playing at all times. You can also have music that is geared towards children whenever the videos are not playing.

However, it is a good bet that having an entertaining animated series playing on the television in the waiting room will help to immediately put children at ease.

Spruce Up the Treatment Rooms

The treatment rooms that you have in your dental office should be kid-friendly. You need to make it as kid-friendly as a waiting area.

This means you should make sure that the walls are brightly colored, preferably with big cartoon characters on them. Make sure that there is enough space for the child’s parents to sit with them comfortably to help make them feel more relaxed.

The more spacious the room is the better because cramped rooms will tend to make some children very anxious. Making sure that a child can see everything that is happening and explaining everything as you go along is the best way to ensure that children stay relaxed in the dentist’s chair.

Start Designing

Making your dental office kid-friendly is necessary to alleviate the fears that many children have about going to the dentist. By making your office more inviting you help to put children at ease. This will make the whole process easier not only for them but for you as well.

Make sure that you explain to children in simple language everything that is happening as well. This and a comfortable environment will be sure to make them want to visit again.
