However, you can’t just expect your team to sit down every day raring to be the best that they can be. Here are the things you must do if you want a productive team:
Make The Right Hires
The first step you have to take might seem obvious, but you need to make the right hires. You need to make sure that the people in your business are passionate about the industry/niche, and that they are exactly who you’re looking for to fill a role. This is why you should be super specific about the kind of person you want for the role. Just remember that some things can be taught on the job and that experience isn’t everything!
Treat Them Right
Treating your staff right is going to make them want to work harder for you. Treating them right will help you to boost morale and build loyalty. Help them when they’re stuck, create an open door policy and let them know you’re there for them, even treat them to lunch in the office occasionally. Doing things like this will make work less of a chore.
Allow Them To Focus On Their Main Jobs
You can’t expect to have a productive team if you’re constantly asking them to do things that fall outside of their actual job. They need to be able to focus on their main job to become as productive as possible. For things that aren’t their main jobs, you should look at outsourcing. For example, there are even non profit IT services if you haven’t got the kind of budget that a regular business would have.
Give Them A Great Environment To Work In
The environment that your team work in will make all the difference to how much they get done. Depending on the job and type of workplace, you should consider having open plan desks that allows them to discuss – trying to enforce silence won’t get you very far, and can actually be counterproductive to their productivity. Make sure there’s plenty of natural light and that they are able to get refreshments to enjoy when they need to.
Inspire And Encourage Them
Make sure you take every opportunity to inspire and encourage your team. Have a little banter with them, ask them about their lives, and make sure you make an effort to connect personally with them. Make sure the whole team is on board with new hires especially, and that it’s not just you welcoming them into the fold.
Get Out Of The Way
Make sure you’re not in the way of your team as they try to be productive. You have picked your team for a reason, and you know the skills and talents that they possess. Step back and trust them to get the job done. Lurking around them will stop them from being as productive as possible.
